HOW TO MOP

Clear The Area - Before you start to mop, you must do some preparation. It is important to remove all furniture such as tables, chairs and throw rugs. You want to make sure that you can reach every spot on the floor. If the furniture seems a little dirty when you move it, it is best to clean it before you mop the floor to prevent debris. After you finish mopping your floor make sure everyone that is in your home, knows not to step on the floor while it is drying. Clearing the area will make things much easier when you are trying to remove grime and debris.

Sweep first - This step may seem redundant, but a mop does not do a good job of picking up dust, solid debris and crumbs. If you don't sweep before you begin cleaning floors, you will be pushing stuff around. Never skip this tip because dust and debris can leave scratches on the floor

Use Warm Water - After you are prepared to mop your floor, you should mix your cleaner with warm water. Fill the bucket with water half-way so the mop can be completely submerged in the water when you dip it. If you have a dried out mop, then it will need to soak in the warm water before you begin cleaning.

Mop In Sections - Mopping floors in small sections can make getting rid of grime build up and debris easier. When you break the floor up into sections, you should only wipe the floor with the mop three to four times. This will help spread the cleaning solution over the area, rather than scrubbing the dirt.

Rinse & Wring - Another tip to remember is to wring your mop out when you finish a section. Make sure you wring out your mop over the bucket. Then you should wipe the small section with the wrung out the mop. It is also imperative to rinse your mop out, so you won't spread dirt on to other parts of the floor. If your floor is made out of hardwood, you may need to rinse your mop twice.

Change Your Cleaner - When you mop your floor, your cleaning solution can become visibly solid, and it can get darker. Using dirty water will not get the floor clean. Cleaning solution should be changed when you notice that your water has become visibly dirty; this will make sure that you are only using clean water on your floor which will make it more useful.

Soak Your Mop - Another important tip is to soak your mop in the cleaner and then begin to wipe another section of the floor. Each time you wipe a section you repeat these steps until you have the whole floor clean. Move the bucket close to you so you can continue to wring the mop as you go along.

Let The Floor Dry - When you finish mopping the floor, you should open a window or a door to let the floor air dry. Many people make the mistake of drying the floor themselves. The only time you should dry a floor is when the streaks are bad. If the floor is completely clean and there are no streaks let the air dry the floor. Then you can begin to move your furniture back to where it belongs. It is important to also hang the mop when you are finished. Leaving the mop in the bucket will cause it to smell because it will be filled with dirt and grime. Remember to always dump your water into the toilet and not the kitchen sink where you prepare your food.
