Pallet Jacks

Pallet Jacks are one of the most fundamental pieces of equipment in warehouse, distribution, and storage facilities.

What is a Pallet Jack?

A pallet jack (also known as a pallet truck) is a wheeled trolley designed to lift and transport pallets.

Pallet Jacks have tapered forks which slot underneath the pallet. The handle has a pump mechanism which is then used to raise and lower the load and easily move the pallet around a warehouse.

The pallet jack is best suited to short distances.

The forks of a pallet jack can easily support several types of loads, making them ideal for loading and unloading applications in a wide variety of industries.

A pallet jack simplifies the process of moving loads around your premises whilst eliminating many of the risks associated with heavy lifting.

How Does a Pallet Jack Work?

1)      To move a load using a pallet jack, you must first place that load on a pallet and secure it using suitable strapping materials (e.g. lashing straps).

2)      Once your load is secure: Position the pallet jack behind the pallet and slide the forks into the gaps underneath the pallet.

3)      You can then use the pallet jacks pump-action handle to raise the pallet up off the ground.

4)      Once raised, you can move the pallet by pushing or pulling on the handle of the pallet jack.

It is important to note that pallet jacks are powered manually and depend on human force to operate.

The worker pushes the forks into the pallet and raises it off the floor to the required height by using the jacking part of the machine.

Once lifted, the pallet jack can be moved by the operator wherever it’s needed.

What are the Benefits of a Pallet Jack?

Pallets Jacks are easy to use, reduce injuries, improve efficiency in the warehouse and offer a very low maintenance cost.

Easy to Use:

One of major benefits of pallet jacks is that they are relatively small and simple when compared to other pieces of material handling equipment. This makes it easy to use the pallet jack in tight spaces and corners where a forklift would probably never fit. It is not unusual for businesses to own a few pallet jacks to ensure all corners of their facility are working smoothly and efficiently.

Reduces Injuries:

In a warehouse environment, certain tasks are too heavy to be carried out by human hands. With the use of pallet jacks and pallet trucks, these tasks become safer and easier to perform. This, in turn, lowers the risk of injuries or back problems, reducing injuries and their related costs drastically.

Increased Efficiency:

By using Pallet Jacks, the level of energy required to load and unload large objects is cut to a minimum, and the time required to complete tasks around your facility is also reduced, increasing efficiency, and ultimately profit.

Low Maintenance Costs:

Workplaces that use pallet jacks for loading and unloading purposes enjoy the benefit of lower maintenance costs and reduced downtime. Forklifts are costly to run, service and maintain, whereas pallet jacks are manually powered and can be quickly and easily serviced. This keeps your facility running smoothly whilst keeping maintenance costs down.
