Gondola Shelving for Retail Display

Gondola shelving is the free-standing display system used across retail floors, from supermarkets and pharmacies to hardware and convenience stores. Dreymar supplies gondola shelving in South Africa in a range of heights and configurations, single or double-sided, with trade pricing on full-store fit-outs.

Gondola shelving sizes and configuration

Units come in four standard heights on a 914mm width, with three shelf depths to match the product being displayed. Every bay can be specified as single-sided against a wall or double-sided for aisle runs, and with or without a back panel.

Single-sided or double-sided

Single-sided gondolas stand against a wall and display from one face, which suits the perimeter of a store. Double-sided units display from both faces and form the aisle runs down the middle of the floor. Most retail fit-outs use a mix: single-sided around the walls, double-sided islands through the centre.

Base and upper shelves

Each bay has a deeper base shelf that carries the heavier stock at floor level, with adjustable upper shelves above it. The upper shelves reposition on the upright slots, so shelf heights change as stock and seasons change without any new fixings.

Where gondola shelving is used

  • Supermarkets and grocers. Double-sided aisle runs for packaged goods.
  • Pharmacies and convenience stores. Lower heights for clear sightlines across the floor.
  • Hardware and retail. Deeper shelves and back panels for boxed and bulky stock.

Gondola shelving pairs with the wider steel shelving range for stockroom and back-of-house storage, and with wall shelving for perimeter display.

Gondola shelving: frequently asked questions

What heights does gondola shelving come in?

Dreymar gondola shelving comes in four standard heights: 1200mm, 1500mm, 1800mm and 2100mm, all on a 914mm width. Lower units keep sightlines open across a store, while taller units maximise display density.

What is the difference between single and double-sided gondola shelving?

Single-sided units display from one face and stand against a wall. Double-sided units display from both faces and form the aisle runs through the middle of a store. Most fit-outs combine both, with single-sided around the perimeter and double-sided islands in the centre.

What shelf depths are available?

Shelf depths are 305mm, 381mm and 457mm. Shallower depths suit small packaged goods, while the deeper 457mm shelves carry bulky or boxed stock. Base shelves are typically deeper than the upper shelves for stability.

Can gondola shelving be used without a back panel?

Yes. Units are available with or without a back panel. A back panel gives a finished look and stops stock pushing through on double-sided runs, while open units are lighter and suit wire-basket or hook displays.

Can I order gondola shelving for a full store fit-out?

Yes. Dreymar supplies gondola shelving for single bays through to complete store fit-outs, with trade pricing on volume orders and colour options to match store branding. Contact the team with a floor plan or bay count for a quote.
