Castors and Trolley Wheels for South African Industry

Dreymar Industrial stocks one of the most comprehensive ranges of industrial castors and trolley wheels in South Africa. Suitable for warehouses, factories, hospitals, hotels, retail environments and logistics operations - from light-duty office trolleys to heavy-duty industrial carts carrying loads over 1,000kg.

Wheel Materials - Choosing the Right Type

The wheel material is the single most important factor when selecting a castor. Each material suits different floor types, load weights and environmental conditions:

  • Polyurethane wheels - the most popular choice for warehouse and factory floors. Floor-friendly, quiet-rolling, wear-resistant and load-bearing. Available in medium-duty and heavy-duty grades. Recommended for most general industrial applications.
  • Super elastic rubber (SER) wheels - the best choice for shock absorption and floor protection. Ideal for trolleys carrying fragile or sensitive loads, or operating on mixed and uneven surfaces.
  • Nylon wheels - lightweight, chemical-resistant and affordable. Suited to light and medium-duty trolleys on smooth, dry floors.
  • Cast iron wheels - extremely durable and heat-resistant to 280°C. Used in foundries, steel mills and high-temperature industrial environments.
  • Pneumatic wheels - inflatable tyre on a steel rim for outdoor and rough-surface applications. Excellent shock absorption for uneven ground.
  • Solid rubber wheels - quieter than nylon, more durable than pneumatic. Good all-round option for mixed indoor and outdoor use.

Castor Configurations Available

All wheel types are available in multiple mounting configurations:

  • Swivel castors - rotate 360° for full manoeuvrability. Used on all four corners of trolleys requiring directional flexibility.
  • Fixed castors - directional only. Typically used on the rear two positions of a trolley for straight-line tracking.
  • Swivel with brake - swivel castor with a locking mechanism to hold the trolley stationary. Required in any application where the trolley must stay in place during loading or unloading.

Series Available

Dreymar's castor range is organised into three main series to suit different load ratings and applications:

  • 22 Series - medium-duty. The most commonly specified series for general warehouse and factory trolleys.
  • 61 Series - heavy-duty with roller bearing. Suited to high-load applications in manufacturing and logistics.
  • TS/XX Series - heavy-duty with double ball bearing. The highest-specification series in the Dreymar range for demanding industrial environments.

Not Sure Which Castor to Choose?

The right castor depends on four factors: load weight, floor type, operating environment and required mobility. If you are replacing castors on an existing trolley, note the existing wheel diameter, plate size and bolt spacing before ordering - these measurements are on the product pages for each series.

For new trolleys and equipment builds, the Dreymar team can assist with castor selection. Explore the full range including 22 Series castors, TS/XX Series castors and scaffold castors. For the trolleys these castors fit, see our industrial trolleys range. For full materials handling solutions, visit our materials handling solutions page.

Your Most Common Questions, Answered

1. What are castors and wheels used for?

Castors and wheels are mobility components that allow equipment, trolleys, furniture, and machinery to move smoothly and safely across various floor surfaces. They're essential in warehouses, hospitals, workshops, and industrial environments.

2. What is the difference between castors and wheels?

Wheels are the rolling components, while castors are complete assemblies that include a wheel, mounting plate or stem, and a swivel or fixed bracket. Castors enable rotation and movement, making trolleys manoeuvrable.

3. What types of castors does Dreymar supply?

Dreymar supplies a wide variety of castors, including swivel castors, fixed castors, braked castors, and heavy-duty castors suitable for everything from light retail trolleys to industrial machinery.

4. What sizes of trolley wheels are available?

We stock a comprehensive range of sizes from light-duty 50mm wheels to heavy-duty 200mm+ castors and wheels, ensuring compatibility with any trolley type or application.

5. Which materials are used in your castors and wheels?

Our wheels are made from rubber, polyurethane (PU), nylon, cast iron, and thermoplastic rubber (TPR), each suited to different floor surfaces and load requirements.

6. How much weight can your castors support?

Load capacities vary. Light-duty castors may support 40–100kg per wheel, while heavy-duty options can carry loads exceeding 1,000kg. Always check the product specs or request guidance for high-load applications.

7. Are your trolley wheels suitable for rough or uneven floors?

Yes. We offer PU and pneumatic castor wheels designed specifically for rough or uneven flooring. These options reduce vibration and protect both the load and flooring surface.

8. Can I buy braked castors from Dreymar?

Absolutely. We stock braked castors that lock both wheel rotation and swivel movement for enhanced stability on inclined or uneven surfaces.

9. Do you offer stainless steel castors for food or medical use?

Yes. Dreymar offers corrosion-resistant stainless steel castors suitable for clean-room environments, food processing facilities, and medical applications.

10. Can I replace just the wheel or do I need the whole castor assembly?

In many cases, you can replace just the wheel if the housing is intact. However, if the swivel or brake mechanism is worn, it’s advisable to replace the full castor assembly for safety and performance.

11. What is the lead time for bulk castor orders?

Lead times depend on quantity and product type. Most standard items are available for fast dispatch. For large or specialised orders, lead time is typically 3–5 working days.

12. Do you offer castors with top plate or bolt hole mounting?

Yes, our range includes both plate-mounted and stem (bolt hole) castors to suit various applications. Be sure to match your mounting style when selecting replacements.

13. Are your castors floor-friendly?

Yes. We stock non-marking wheels, including rubber and PU options, designed to protect sensitive flooring such as tiles, vinyl, or polished concrete.

14. How do I choose the right trolley wheel or castor for my application?

Consider load capacity, floor surface, required mobility (fixed vs. swivel), environmental conditions, and mounting type. Or simply contact Dreymar’s team for tailored advice.

15. How do I request a quote for castors and wheels?

Use the “Add to Quote” function found on each product listing. Just specify the wheel size or load requirement, submit the form, and the Dreymar team will get in touch with a formal quote and next steps.
