WHAT IS MUTTON CLOTH?

Mutton cloth - also known as Stockinette - is a versatile Industrial fabric manufactured on circular knitting machines. (The name mutton cloth is derived from its original use for the wrapping of frozen meat.) Nowadays the product is recognised for its absorbancy, softness & wet strength and is widely used for general cleaning, washing and polishing in industry, workshops, garages and in the home.

Mutton cloth is a type of material usually made from 100% cotton, although some are made from synthetic materials. Mutton cloth is an essential in many South African homes because of the versatility of the cloth and the fact that it can be reused a number of times before being discarded.

WHERE IS MUTTON CLOTH USED?

Mutton cloth is often sold in supermarkets, making it easily accessible to the general public and can also be purchased in large quantities with different dimensions and thickness for industrial applications.

DIY enthusiasts use mutton cloth in numerous applications because it does not scratch delicate surfaces. Mutton cloth can be used to wipe away sawdust during woodwork projects and to apply wood stain to a newly created piece of furniture. Mutton cloth can also be used to apply polish to wooden surfaces.
